NBTel/Aliant Telecom Mobility launches half-million dollar digital expansion to Grand Bay

Saint John, New Brunswick - The finishing touches have been made on a significant half-million dollar cellular network expansion to improve and extend digital cellular service to Grand Bay, outside Saint John.

NBTel/Aliant Telecom Mobility announced details today of the new digital site, which brings the benefits of digital service to more than 3,700 residents of the Grand Bay area. The service will extend from Grand Bay to the Kingston Peninsula. The new digital cell site also provides enhanced services to travelers on the highway between Saint John and Fredericton.

“We are pleased to announce this important investment to this key area of our growing digital network,” says Terry Finnigan, Director, Aliant Telecom Wireless. “Today’s announcement is part of our company’s ongoing investment in infrastructure development and expansion of world class services to New Brunswickers.”

According to Ms. Finnigan, customers will experience the next generation of cellular service that offers all of the benefits of traditional cellular service while incorporating many new features including longer battery life, enhanced privacy, better voice clarity, free call display and per second billing on select rate plans.

“One of the key benefits of digital service is the extended battery life. Customers using a digital phone on the digital network can talk for up to three times as long as compared with traditional cellular”, said Ms. Finnigan. “Digital phone conversations are also more private as digital signals cannot be decoded by scanners.”

Also, according to Ms. Finnigan, customers in the digital serving area can now choose to access the Internet, their email and even their Corporate LAN (Local Area Network) when using a web/data capable digital cellular phone. “Digital service means customers can subscribe to our WireFree Suite of Services – these services make it possible to surf the Internet from anywhere within the digital serving area, simply by using a web-enabled cellular phone.”

In addition, Ms. Finnigan said that digital service provides customers with many of the most popular call management features at no extra cost. “Call display, visual call waiting, call forward and message waiting indication are just some of the features that will allow customers to manage their cellular calling more effectively – and these services are included at no additional cost as part of the customer’s rate package,” she said.
