Aliant Winterlude 2003 – a celebration of winter

St. John’s, NL – The month of February is known around the world as the time to celebrate, whether its carnivals or festivals – it’s about rejuvenating those winter spirits. Mindful of the spirit of the season, Aliant has joined with their event partners to organize a four-day festival that is sure to get everyone out of the house and into the “festival mood” with Aliant Winterlude, February 6-9, 2003.

The highlights of Aliant Winterlude include the Confederation Cup, an invitational high school hockey tournament, a Mile One Stadium rock concert, a family snow day at Bowring Park and two St. John’s Maple Leafs games. As well, the Student Unions at Memorial University and College of the North Atlantic will be linking their students into events throughout the four day event. The schedule for Aliant Winterlude will also continue to expand as new events are finalized.

Joining with Aliant in the development of the event is an impressive list of founding partners including the Avalon Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of St. John’s Department of Recreation, College of the North Atlantic Student Union, George Street Bar Association, Memorial University of Newfoundland Student Union (MUNSU), and St. John’s Sport & Entertainment Ltd.

“We are extremely delighted to be working with such a distinguished list of community minded organizations in the development of the first Aliant Winterlude project”, said Frank Fagan, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Aliant. “Certainly the strength of this venture is evident in the founding partners that have come together to make this possible.”

Another key in the launch of Aliant Winterlude is the participation of the event sponsors; NTV/OZ-FM, the Telegram and Molson have played integral parts in pulling together the planning of some of the different events that will make up Aliant Winterlude in 2003.

“Aliant Winterlude is a great opportunity to develop a community celebration that touches all aspects of life in our city. The schedule of events offers something for everybody and we are looking forward to working with our partners and our sponsors to make Aliant Winterlude one of the premier winter events in the country,” said Fagan.
