Aliant introduces new high-speed Wireless Internet Access location at the Saint John Airport

Saint John, NB - Aliant, Atlantic Canada's leading communications provider, today announced the launch of an additional Wireless Internet Access Zone, commonly known as "Wi-Fi" service, at the Saint John Airport. The term "Wi-Fi" is short for Wireless Fidelity and this service will provide passengers at the Saint John Airport with wireless high-speed access to the Internet.

"Aliant takes great pride in our history of working directly with Atlantic Canadians to better understand their needs and deliver the latest communications services our customers require," said Chuck Hartlen, Vice President, Aliant Mobility. "We are pleased to be working with the Saint John Airport to offer additional value to travelers. Our collaboration makes it possible for Atlantic Canadians to access information when and where they need it."

Customers with wireless cards in their laptops, commonly known as 802.11-enabled, will have free unlimited access at the Saint John Airport, the newest location added to the trial which began earlier this year. This provides travelers with another convenient option to access the Internet, e-mail and corporate networks in public locations without the need for a physical connection.

"Our focus is on customer service in all aspects of the passenger experience at the Saint John Airport. Our passengers can now connect to Wi-Fi in the restaurant, in any of the terminal seating areas and at the business workstations located in the secure departures lounge. Aliant has been a superb partner in developing this new service and we are extremely pleased to add it to the array of business services within our total relationship; a great example of doing business locally," said John Buchanan, President and CEO of Saint John Airport.

Wireless Internet Access Zones have select areas, known as hotspots, which allow customers access to high-speed Internet without the need for a physical connection. As long as customers are within a 50 to 100 metre radius of the hotspot, they can access Aliant's network and its services.

Other trial locations in Atlantic Canada include:
  • Halifax International Airport

  • Halifax World Trade and Convention Centre

  • St. John's International Airport

  • Greater Moncton International Airport

  • Atlantic Technology Centre in Charlottetown
