Aliant supports young soccer players across Atlantic Canada

St. John’s, NL – The Newfoundland & Labrador Soccer Association, Soccer New Brunswick, The Prince Edward Island Soccer Association, and Soccer Nova Scotia are pleased to announce the signing of a joint sponsorship agreement that will see Aliant become the title sponsor of the All-Star Championships in Atlantic Canada. This partnership will have male and female all-star teams from each province competing for the Aliant Cup in the under-13, under-14, and under-16 age groups.

"Soccer is an ideal sport sponsorship opportunity for Aliant, considering the growing popularity it enjoys in communities right across Atlantic Canada," said Susan Harley, Aliant's Director of Market Integration. "With the Aliant Cup, Aliant can play a key role in providing opportunities for our youth around Atlantic Canada. This sponsorship reinforces Aliant's support in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces, providing opportunities for tournaments covering three age categories. We are proud to be able to have a real impact of the long-term soccer development of young Atlantic Canadians and to provide much needed competitive opportunities to develop our teams for future National Championships and the Canada Games."

"Soccer NB is pleased and excited to have Aliant join the Atlantic soccer scene as the title sponsor of the Atlantic Cup," said Jennifer Keith, Executive Director of Soccer New Brunswick. "This partnership will allow us to provide high-profile events across Atlantic Canada exposing our athletes to quality competitions in preparation for national level events."

The Aliant Cup tournaments, each featuring four male and four female teams, will rotate throughout the Atlantic Canada each year to ensure that the benefits associated with hosting competitive soccer tournaments are spread right across the region. Here is the schedule for the 2005 tournaments:

Each Aliant Cup All-Star Championship will also include an Aliant sponsored Players Clinic. All-star team coaches will provide instruction to 50 younger athletes from the host region, helping them develop their skills so they might play in future Aliant Cup tournaments.

"As part of this sponsorship program, we asked the Provincial Branches to include clinics for younger players in the host region to ensure that the benefits of hosting an Aliant Cup tournament are extended beyond the participants," explained Ms. Harley.
