Aliant hosts Vancouver 2010 CEO John Furlong on Atlantic Canada tour to raise excitement for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

St. John’s, NL - With only 465 days until the kick off to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Aliant is hosting a four day Atlantic tour this week with John Furlong, Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). Mr. Furlong and the 2010 mascots Miga, Sumi, and Quatchi will be visiting St. John’s, Halifax, Moncton and Charlottetown from November 4-7 to share the excitement of Canada’s Games with Atlantic Canadians.

The four day tour schedule will provide Mr. Furlong the opportunity to visit Atlantic Canada communities and leaders to build awareness for the upcoming 2010 Winter Games. Aliant is the only Official Supporter of the 2010 Winter Games in Atlantic Canada and welcomes Mr. Furlong to share the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games story.

“We are delighted to be here on Canada’s East Coast in the final week of Phase 1 of ticket requests and to partner with Aliant – a great ambassador of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and a strong supporter of sport, athletes, coaches and communities,” said John Furlong, VANOC CEO. “Now is the time for Canadians in Atlantic Canada to create their own once-in-a-lifetime Olympic experience in 2010 and Aliant is helping us deliver that message personally. We thank them for inviting us to participate in the tour this week and look forward to celebrating Canada’s Games with all of Atlantic Canada.”
Aliant celebrates Atlantic Canadian Olympic and Paralympic success through direct sponsorship of athletes who live and train in Atlantic Canada, including Olympic canoer Andrew Russell, Dave Durepos, silver medalist and two-time gold medalist in wheelchair basketball, Kara Grant, two-time Olympic modern pentathlete and Katarina Roxon, Paralympic swimmer. These athletes, including Jamie Korab, Olympic Curling gold medalist and Aliant employee will join Mr. Furlong on the Atlantic tour and help carry the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games.

“We welcome John and are delighted to be able to partner with VANOC to help share the 2010 Winter Games with our customers and our communities in Atlantic Canada,” said Heather Tulk, Senior Vice President Customer Solutions, Bell Aliant. “We have been a longtime supporter of the Games and believe in the strength of the Olympic and Paralympic movement in uniting communities through sport and excellence. This is our opportunity to celebrate the champions of Atlantic Canada and to deliver the Games in many special ways to Canada’s East Coast.”

Aliant is an Official Supporter of the Canadian Olympic Team from 2006 to 2012 and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.  This included the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Team from Torino 2006, Beijing 2008 and the future London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
